Traffic Is The Currency Of The Internet
If you ever talk to me about Internet marketing or success on the web in general, you are likely to hear me say this: "Traffic is the currency of the Internet". I say this often because when you really think about it, it is true. Traffic equals money... money is currency; therefore traffic is currency. So, why does traffic equal money? Well, this very simple equation has a very simple answer. Traffic is the amount of people that visit a website and most websites have some sort of monetization mechanisim in place to turn traffic into money. The monetization mechanism could be banner ads, text link ads from Google Adsense, a lead capture form, the sale of a product, etc... the point is: With enough traffic, someone will convert on the monetization mechanism which then brings money to the website owner. Now, you can probably tell that making money from a website is a numbers game, and it absolutely is. We would be crazy to think that everyone that visits our site is going to convert on the monetization mechanism... they won't. However, given enough people (traffic), someone eventually will convert on the monetization mechanism. It may only be 1 person out of every 100 visitors that converts on the monetization mechanism, which would mean your website's conversion rate is 1%. Now you can see that massive traffic levels equals lots of conversions on the monetization mechanism. So, if you run a website that does convert at 1%, imagine the conversions if 10,000 people visit your site each day. That would be 100 conversions each day. Not bad.
Obviously, depending on what kind of monetization mechanism a particular website is using (there could be a combination of many such as lead capture and Google Adsense) the different the value of a conversion. I will not get into the value of conversions, because that ranges wildly. The point is that traffic is valuable... it is the lifeblood of your online venture. Without traffic, a website will not generate the first penny. For this reason, as I have mentioned before, having a great, well-designed website is only part of the equation for an effective online presence. The other half of the equation is getting traffic by investing in search engine optimization or pay-per-click management.
Just remember: "Traffic is the currency of the Internet." So get out there and get some visitors to your website and see your business explode!
